2012 Spring Weed Control Meeting
Wednesday March 14 2012 - 09:58:06
We wanted to get this process started earlier this year. Unless something dramatic changes, the GLID has decided not to do weed harvesting/cutting any longer. This by all reports causes more harm than good. We are lining up those of you who would like to have herbicide applications done around your dock areas.
Meeting will be March 31st at 10 AM at the Waynett town hall.
We will provide updates on the lake management plan and a session to be held in June or July to get your ideas.

Herbicide Treatment Update
Tuesday July 12 2011 - 08:07:20
Updae for the homeowners who have signed up to get a herbicde treatment.
Lake Management was contaced on 7/9 to get an update from their perspective on the status of our Herbicide treatments. They shared:
1. Until the State is back in business no work is being done on the processing of our applications... no inspections = no permit.
2. Lake Management was in court yesterday trying to get authorization to treat those lakes where a permit has already been issued... no decision was forthcoming
3. The DNR will have a backlog when they return to work... as will Lake Management...
4. If the state budget is resolved and they are back to work soon the treatments can still be done effectively before the end of July.
5. No permits are issued after August 1.
6. All permits expire on Sept. 1.
Herbicide Treatment Participants
Sunday June 26 2011 - 12:16:12
With all of the inclement weather, you should check the condition of your Red Numbered markers. The DNR should be out in the next week or so to inspect each property.
If you have lost your card, contact Lake Management directly to get a replacement.

May 2011 Update
Monday May 30 2011 - 21:47:54
Annual Meeting and Picnic
The annual meeting and budget approval is scheduled for Saturday July 23rd at 10 AM at the Wyanett Town Hall.
If you can host the picnic on your lakeshore, please contact Bob Duncan at
-email-.
The picnic will follow directly after the meeting. If we do not have a volunteer or if it is raining, the picnic will be at the Wyanett Town Hall. Bring something to share.
Herbicide Treatment: Permits due by May 28th
For homeowners who wish to treat the weeds along their shoreline, George Bergquist is organizing a process for all the homeowners who wish to treat their shoreline area. The DNR allows you to treat 100 feet if shore line or ½ your property width, whichever is smallest and 100 feet out into the lake for weeds. George is working with a professional herbicide applicator who charges $2.20 per lineal shoreline foot. There is an additional charge of $35 per homeowner to file the required permit with the DRN. The instructions and permit are posted in the download area of this website.
If you are interested in being part of this process, you must have your permits filled out and ready to go by Saturday, May 28th.
If you have questions, please contact George at: 952-288-7461
Weeds in General
If we have a mil foil event where it mats and home owners are not able to get their boats out into the lake, we are set up to cut so those impaired can take advantage of the lake.

Spring Meeting Agenda
Friday March 25 2011 - 19:32:27
Meeting Agenda
- 2010 Water Quality Testing Results
- Set dates for the spring weed control meeting, the annual meeting, and the picnic
- Need a volunteer to host on their lake property
- Provide an update and prepare for the potential of weed management on the lake this summer
- Need area captains to pass out information in May
- Talk about an initiative to obtain grant funds for activities to control the source of nutrients that are a contributing factor to our weed problem
- Talk about the possibility of setting up a Green Lake trust fund to use for funding of future projects
- Money can be donated to the trust
- Vote to use a portion of our reserve fund to initiate a water quality review and develop a plan for controlling nutrients coming into the lake from the tributaries
Keeping Nutrients Out of the Lake
- Fertilizers – if you must fertilize leave a minimum15 foot buffer on the water front (middle number has to be zero)
- Leaves and grass clippings – keep them out of the lake
- Ashes from fires or burning leaves are another source of nutrients if allowed to wash into the lake
- Do not feed the geese and ducks – this is pure plant fertilizer
- A goose puts up to 1 pound of feces in the lake per day
- A duck about half that amount per day
Swimmers Itch
- This is caused by a parasite that is introduced through water fowl feces into the lake
- Another reason not to feed the geese and ducks
Best Lakeshore Management Practices
Tuesday March 23 2010 - 08:06:45
The lake turns green because of the nutrients in the lake. We can all do things to help keep some of the nutrients out of the lake:
· Leaves should not be raked or otherwise placed in the lake. As they breakdown, they provide additional nutrients to the lake.
· Burning of leaves, other debris and recreational fires by the lake produces ash. Ash is another nutrient. If you have fires by the lake, take care to keep the ash out of the lake.
· If you need to fertilize, be sure the middle number on the bag is zero. If you need to fertilize, keep a 15 foot buffer with the lake. All fertilizer will provide some run off that gets into the lake.
Lake Weed Control
· Homeowners can get a permit from the DNR to treat up to 2500 square feet (25 X 100 or 50 X 50, etc.) of the lake shoreline with herbicide or a lake weed roller.
· If we have a major weed event, the GLID will pay for a lake wide weed control permit covering all lakeshore home owners. This does not typically occur until July.
· In all cases, the DNR will check the severity of the weeds and will decide if any action can be taken.

I don't like using 100% on a table cell when I have a pixel width defined in the other cell so rather than defining the 100% I just hide a large div at the bottom to push out the edge.
